Psycho Sound Analysis

At the beginning of the shower scene, the only sound is diagetic. There is only the sounds of the shower curtain and the shower itself. This immerses the viewer in the scene. however, when the killer opens the shower curtain, the score suddenly starts. This shocks the viewer and increases the tension and continues as the killer stabs the woman ( the stabbing sounds are produced by foley artists). As the woman dies, the music changes to a lower tone, then disappears completely when the killer leaves and she dies. The only sound is of the water going down the drain. This represents the significance of the death and allows the audience to recover from their shock.
